San Dimas : Home Begins Fund Drive
The McKinley Home for Boys has launched a $3.2-million fund-raising drive to construct five new buildings to house classrooms, special teaching facilities and a computer laboratory.
McKinley already has raised half of the goal from four groups, the Whittier, Confidence, Mercios and WWW foundations of South Pasadena. All of them were established by the children of the late Mercios (Max) Whittier, a member of McKinley’s board of directors and a longtime financial supporter.
The proposed 23,000-square-foot complex will replace temporary structures. The new facility, to be named after Whittier, is expected to be completed by the fall of 1988, said Carl Wood, president of the school’s governing board.
About 80 boys ages 7 to 17 live at McKinley. They have been referred by county agencies to the home because the boys have behavioral or educational difficulties.
