Patient Killed as Fire Sweeps Hospital Room

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Fire broke out in a hospital room Tuesday, killing a patient and critically injuring another sharing the room, officials said.
Dozens of patients had to be evacuated by firefighters as smoke spread through one floor of the Truman Medical Center. Three nurses, one medical student and two security officers were treated for smoke inhalation. The fire began in a trash can that was being used as an ashtray, officials said.
