A federal judge today upheld an NCAA ruling forbidding Louisiana State defensive end Roland Barbay from playing in the Sugar Bowl because tests showed Barbay had used steroids last spring.

Ruling from the bench, because of the short time before the New Year’s Day kickoff, U.S. District Judge Robert Collins said Barbay had failed to show there was a constitutional issue involved. LSU, ranked fifth, plays No. 6 Nebraska in the game.
