Franklin Hits 38 as Taft Wins Title
Taft High’s 38-special struck again in the championship game of the Eagle Rock basketball tournament when Kevin Franklin scored 38 points to give Taft an 84-79 win over Fremont on Tuesday night. His performance marked the third time this season he has scored 38 points. His 40 points in the tournament semifinals is a school record.
Franklin, a 6-4 senior guard, was named the tournament most valuable player. He made 15 of 23 shots and 8 of 10 free throws, including two with six seconds remaining in the game to secure the victory.
Teammates Vernon Middleton and Sean Roberts also were named to the all-tournament team. Middleton scored 20 points and Roberts scored 15 in the final.
Taft is 8-3. Fremont is 6-4.
