Abolish Pennies
Have there been any time-and-motion studies done on the handling of pennies--at check-out counters, for example? Wouldn’t it be feasible to eliminate pennies entirely in cash transactions by rounding up or down to the nearest nickel?
I, for one, resent fumbling for the exact change and carrying the extra weight of these coins. The inflation of the 1970s makes them hardly worth the effort.
The few cents extra paid on some transactions would be balanced against the few cents less paid on others. Eliminating pennies would be sensible.
