Driver Dies After Trailer Fishtails
A 33-year-old Lancaster man was killed Saturday when the trailer he was pulling on the Antelope Valley Freeway in Newhall fishtailed, causing both the trailer and the driver’s vehicle to overturn, the California Highway Patrol said.
Robert Bermea was pronounced dead at Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital at 4:45 p.m., about an hour after a rescue team pried him from the 1970 Jeep in which he became trapped after the accident, which occurred about half a mile south of San Fernando Road, said CHP Officer Kent Buzbee.
Buzbee said Bermea was driving northbound in the far right lane at about 55 m.p.h. when the trailer began to swerve violently. The trailer and the Jeep overturned as Bermea was pulling onto the right shoulder, Buzbee said.
