Storage of Challenger’s wreckage in missile silos was delayed, pending agreement with the Justice Department that no potential evidence will be destroyed, officials said. NASA said the wreckage remains in other facilities at the Kennedy Space Center in Florida. NASA has refurbished two Minuteman ICBM silos at the nearby Cape Canaveral Air Force Station for long-term storage of the 20,000 cubic feet of debris recovered from the Jan. 28, 1986, explosion of the space shuttle. Some of the wreckage must be cut up to fit the silos.
