At Saalbach, Austria, Switzerland’s Maria Walliser swept to her second successive supergiant slalom victory of the World Cup skiing season and moved within seven points of teammate Vreni Schneider in the overall Cup standings.
Walliser won by almost a second on the 4,587-foot course with a time of 1 minute 9.71 seconds. Brigitte Oertli of Switzerland, who started 22nd and had to battle deteriorating conditions, placed second in 1:10.66 and Yugoslavia’s rapidly improving Mateja Svet was third in 1:10.75.
