Bruce, Stolz Opt Against Arizona
University of Arizona Athletic Director Cedric Dempsey continues to look for a football coach after Earle Bruce of Ohio State and Denny Stolz of San Diego State withdrew as candidates Wednesday.
“I guess it was a difficult decision when someone wants you and they offered the moon,” Bruce said. “I can’t go. I’m going to stay where my heart is, and my heart is in Columbus.”
Stolz, mentioned as a candidate in press reports, said he is staying at San Diego State, but Dempsey would not say whether Stolz had been under consideration.
Dempsey would not name any coaches under consideration to replace Larry Smith, who last week took the coaching job at USC.
