Santa Ana : 4 Hospital Employees Honored for Bravery
Four hospital employees who pulled three young children from a burning car last month have been honored by the City Council with commendations for “exceptional bravery.”
Vice Mayor Patricia A. McGuigan this week presented the awards to Ed Rodriguez, 57, Dave Howard, 30, Daniel Dowell, 28, and Al Bolsten, 60.
The four employees of Coastal Communities Hospital on South Bristol Street braved flames and the risk of an explosion to pull the children out of a burning car in the hospital parking lot on Dec. 9, McGuigan said.
The children--Guillermo Clausell, 3, Natasha Clausell, 4, and Rashim Bolder, 18 months--had been left in the car briefly, and the older boy began playing with a butane lighter he found in the car, fire officials said.
The lighter flame ignited a seat cover, which spread to the car’s interior. All three children suffered severe burns and smoke inhalation.
