A Japanese fishing boat with 23 crew members was captured by Soviet patrol vessels after allegedly fishing in banned areas of the Soviet Union’s 200-mile economic zone, maritime authorities said Wednesday.

The Foreign Ministry said the crewmen of the 349-ton No. 15 Kyowa-Maru face trial on charges of illegal operations and ignoring a Soviet order to halt.

Maritime Safety Agency officials said the vessel was seized Saturday.
