About Those Plastic Stamp Container Rolls
Stamps. We all purchase 22-cent stamps, usually $22 worth at a time in those clear plastic containers. The price is the same as for a sheet of stamps, so I suppose the container is thrown in free.
Consider the container. We all tear it apart to get at the stamps. But, it is possible, with a sharp knife and a bit of manual dexterity, to cut a slit in the bottom of the container, feed the end of the roll of stamps through the slot and behold, a stamp dispenser--just like Scotch tape, only you have to lick them first.
I think this is a great idea. All that needs doing is for the container to be manufactured with the slot in the bottom of the first place. (Stronger plastic could be used and, I suppose, the slot should be sealed to keep out moisture.) If the U.S. Postal Service had a suggestion box, I should qualify for an award.
No luck. I have explained this idea to the local postmaster several times. He expressed interest, but I am still cutting slots with my Exacto knife.
Publish this letter, and I would expect postmasters will be deluged with demands that stamps be supplied in useful dispensers. Maybe it will catch on with Andy Rooney. I can see and hear him now: “Have you ever noticed. . . . “
