There’s Help Afoot for Getting in Shape for the Big L.A. Race
Orthopaedic Hospital in Los Angeles and Sears Savings Bank are sponsoring an official Marathon training program. Scheduled for Saturdays through Feb. 21, the program includes sessions with Southern California marathoners and sports medicine specialists.
There will be a final 15-mile training run Saturday starting at San Vicente and Ocean boulevards in Santa Monica. Starting time is 7 a.m. Information: (213) 742-1010.
The Westwood Village 10K, Sunday), has been designated as the official warm-up run for the 1987 L.A. Marathon. Information: (213) 208-6453.

Numerous fun runs are held each week throughout the city.
Phidippides Running store, 4722 1/2 Admiralty Way, Marina del Rey, hosts a four-to-10-mile fun run every Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. Information: (213) 823-6446.
The Sport Shoe, 3216 Los Feliz Blvd., also holds fun runs every Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. Different groups for beginners and advance runners. Information: (213) 668-0709.
The Griffith Park Athletic Club hosts longer runs of 10 to 15 miles every weekend in Griffith Park. They meet at 8 a.m. Saturdays, 6 a.m. Sundays, at the pony rides in Griffith Park.
