Orange County Prep Soccer : Leiker’s 2 Goals Lead Huntington Beach, 4-1
Lisa Leiker scored a pair of goals Thursday to lead the Huntington Beach High School girls’ soccer team to a 4-1 victory over Marina in a Sunset League match at Huntington Beach.
The victory gave the Oilers (3-3-3 in league, 6-7-3 overall) sole possession of second place. Marina is 2-4-2 in league.
Leiker scored off a corner kick at the six-minute mark to give Huntington Beach a 1-0 lead. She scored her second goal on a breakaway.
Oiler goalie Kerry Kelter made five saves.
Huntington Beach plays league-leading Edison Tuesday.
In the Century League:
Canyon 1, Villa Park 0--Renee Heric scored the only goal as first-place Canyon (6-1-1, 13-6-2) won at Villa Park. Barbara Concannon made 10 saves for Villa Park.
In the Empire League:
Esperanza 1, El Dorado 0--Maria De La Torre scored 22 seconds into the match off a pass from Lisa Bowers to give the Aztecs (7-3-2, 10-3-6) the victory at Placentia. Esperanza goalie Stacey Kingman made three saves, and the Golden Hawks’ Gina Suseata made seven.
In the Garden Grove League:
La Quinta 1, Garden Grove 1--Despite being tied for the second straight game, the Aztecs, the No. 4-ranked team in the Southern Section 3-A division, clinched the league championship.
The Argonauts’ Lynn Tizkowski scored on a deflection midway through the second half to tie the score at 1-1. Lara Crowley scored off a corner kick 30 minutes into the first half to give La Quinta (5-0-2, 19-3-3) a 1-0 lead. The Aztecs outshot Garden Grove, 22-8.
In the South Coast League:
Mission Viejo 3, El Toro 1--The undefeated Diablos (8-0, 21-0-1) clinched the league championship at Mission Viejo.
Kerry Kennedy, Julie Foudy and Tammy Van Opdorp scored for Mission Viejo. It was Foudy’s 21st goal of the season.
Kathy Schick scored for the Chargers.
Capistrano Valley 2, Dana Hills 0--The Cougars improved their league record to 5-2-1 by defeating the Dolphins at Dana Hills.
In boys’ soccer:
Mater Dei 5, Pius X 1--Sam George scored three goals as the Monarchs (11-1, 18-2) routed the Warriors in an Angelus League match at Downey. George has 13 goals on the year. Mater Dei will play Bishop Montgomery with first place at stake Saturday.
Servite 1, Bishop Amat 0--Rhett Harty scored from 25 yards off an assist by Marc Pagaza 13 minutes into the second half to give the Friars (6-6, 9-11) the Angelus League victory over the Lancers (3-7-1, 4-10-1) at La Puente. Servite goalie Tom Nieto made seven saves to earn the shutout.
Valencia 5, Magnolia 0--Adrian Nawabi and Jeff Hudson each scored twice to lead the Tigers (3-2, 6-8-3) in an Orange League match at Magnolia.
