Political Veteran Neil Good Seeks Martinez’s Seat
Neil Good, a 20-year veteran of San Diego political wars, announced his candidacy Thursday for the 8th District City Council seat. The vacancy was created by the resignation of Uvaldo Martinez.
Good, 39, took a verbal swipe at his chief competitor for the post, attorney Mike Aguirre, during his formal announcement speech in front of City Hall. He told a partisan group of supporters that the council position should be filled by a “representative who has a record of bringing people together to make government work for people, not a reputation for divisiveness and costly public temper tantrums.”
Aguirre--who declared for the seat in June, before Martinez was forced to resign because he misused city-issued credit cards--said Thursday he will not trade insults with his rival. He called for Good to “campaign on the issues.”
Good was an aide to former state Sen. Jim Mills and currently is administrative assistant to county Supervisor Leon Williams.
