Rick Kozuback, hockey coach at the University of Wisconsin River Falls, blamed St. Cloud State Coach Herb Brooks for the wild brawl that took place prior to Wednesday night’s game at St. Cloud, Minn. The melee caused the game to be delayed by more than an hour and resulted in about 30 policemen being called in.

Said Kozuback: “His negative tone made this happen. He was talking about a blood bath. It was bound to happen.”

But Brooks told the St. Cloud Daily Times: “For the last two days, all I’ve talked about was that it would be stupid to win a battle and lose a war. I hope we never see anything like that in St. Cloud again.”

St. Cloud State is a Division III school that plans to move to Division I next season. Brooks was formerly coach of the NHL New York Rangers and the 1980 U.S. Olympic team.
