A Campbell man has been arrested for kidnaping and other crimes after he allegedly stole a van occupied by two sleeping children. The Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Department said James Canapary, 39, was booked on suspicion of kidnaping, possession of stolen property, auto theft and possession of a hypodermic needle after he surrendered to officers who cornered him shortly after the van was reported stolen. Sherry Cushingham was finishing up some late work on Valentine’s Day orders at Samaritan Florist while her two sons, Steven, 7, and Jacob, 6, were asleep in the van, which she had left outside the shop with its motor running. A man at the florist’s shop chased the van as the thief sped away, but lost sight of it.
