AMC Reports 4th-Quarter Profit

NEW YORK — American Motors Corp., the fourth-largest U.S. car maker, today reported a fourth-quarter profit of $20.0 million but a loss of $91.3 million for the year.
The auto producer managed to improve its bottom line in the quarter even though sales fell to $983.3 million from $1.13 billion a year ago. AMC had a loss of $125.3 million in 1985. Despite cutting its losses last year, sales slid sharply to $3.46 billion from $4.04 billion a year earlier.
