Iran to Release 100 Disabled Iraqis
LONDON — Iran plans to release another 100 disabled Iraqi prisoners captured in the Persian Gulf War, Iran’s Islamic Republic News Agency said Wednesday.
The news agency report, monitored here, quoted Mohammed Ali Nazaran, secretary of the Supreme Defense Council and the Iranian official in charge of war prisoners. Nazaran said the Iraqis will be freed within the next three months.
Earlier this month, 76 wounded Iraqis were flown home by the International Committee of the Red Cross.
The Red Cross estimates that Iran is holding about 60,000 Iraqi prisoners of war while Baghdad has about 12,000 captured Iranians.
