The Cal Lutheran track team finished second in the Golden State Athletic Conference meet at Point Loma in San Diego on Friday. Azusa Pacific won the event with 93 points; the Kingsmen had 65 points.

CLU’s 400-meter relay team--consisting of Troy Kuretich, Anthony Hardy, Don Price and Noel Chesnut--took first, setting a school record (41.06). Price won the triple jump at 45-2 1/2. Kuretich won the 100 meters with a time of 10.81 and Art Castle finished first in the 10,000 meters.

NFL Draft: Even though CLU tight end Darren Gottschalk and defensive tackle Mike Miller have caught the attention of a few National Football League scouts--including visits from the Minnesota Vikings, Miami Dolphins and the Raiders--CLU coaches doubt that either player will be selected in the NFL player draft next month.

“To get drafted from a Division II school, you really have to dominate to be considered,” Kingsmen assistant Pete Alamar said. “There’s definite interest in Miller and Gottschalk, but I think their possibilities are as free agents.”

Regal sweep: CLU’s women’s softball team swept Southern Cal College on Tuesday, improving its record to 13-6. The Regals will play host to seven teams in a two-day tournament that begins at 8 a.m. Friday at Cal Lutheran. The Regals will open against Loyola Marymount at 10 a.m.

Pitcher Kim Peppi leads CLU with a 6-1 record and a 1.22 earned-run average. The senior, who also has a batting average of .333, was named as an All-District III performer last season.
