Fallbrook High School hit eight home runs, including five in a row to open the third inning, en route to a 22-5 victory over Carlsbad in a nonleague baseball game Wednesday at Fallbrook.

“It’s a launching pad here, and the wind was blowing out,” said Dave Heid, Fallbrook coach.

Jason Rusk had three home runs, two in the third inning.

After Rusk, Ty Barksdale, T.J. Flynn, Bill Dunckel and Mark Ringkamp followed with home runs. Ringkamp, who added a two-run homer in the fourth, was 3 for 3 with two home runs and five RBIs. Rusk, who also had a two-run homer in the sixth, was 3 for 4 with seven RBIs.

Fallbrook (6-1) scored eight runs in the third and 10 in the sixth, with 20 hits in the game.

Fallbrook’s field is 300 feet down the lines and 330 to center field, Heid said.

The eight home runs in the game and three by a single player are not San Diego Section records. Santana hit 10 home runs against El Cajon Valley in 1985. Jimmy Tatum had four home runs for the Sultans in that game to set the section records.

Fallbrook’s eight homers tie Hilltop for second, and Rusk’s three homers tie four others for second on the section lists.

Rusk’s two home runs in an inning tied a national record held by 17 others. The five consecutive home runs tied for second behind the national record, which is seven by Choctaw, Okla., in 1977.

In the City Western League:
