CHORALE ANNOUNCES NEW SEASON
The Pacific Chorale has announced a three-concert subscription series for its 1987-88 season at the Orange County Performing Arts Center.
In addition, the 140-member chorale will appear on three programs with the Pacific Symphony and in concerts at Hollywood Bowl and in Pasadena and Ojai.
Music Director John Alexander will open the subscription series on Nov. 3 with a program entitled “Seas, Ships and Sails.”
Works scheduled include Vaughan Williams’ “A Sea Symphony,” Delius’ “Sea Drift” and one of the composer’s “Two Songs to be Sung of a Summer Night on the Water,” and Sir Charles Villiers Stanford’s “The Bluebird.”
The Pacific Symphony will accompany the chorale on the 8 p.m. program.
The season will continue:
--Dec. 22, “Bells, Brass and Voices”: Seasonal music, with accompaniment provided by the Carilloneers, a hand-bell choir, and members of the brass section of the Pacific Symphony.
--March 26, 1988, “Colors, Hues and Textures”: Brahms’ “A German Requiem” and Messiaen’s “Trois petites liturgies de la Presence Divine.” The Pacific Symphony will accompany the chorale.
In addition to its own subscription series, the chorale will appear at the Center as part of the Pacific Symphony series on the following dates:
--Oct. 14 and 16, Prokofiev’s “Ivan the Terrible” and the Coronation Scene from Mussorgsky’s “Boris Godounov.”
--April 3, 1988, Haydn’s “The Creation.”
--May 19 and 20, 1988, Schoenberg’s “Gurre-Lieder.”
Other appearances will include:
--May 31, 1987: Ojai Music Festival, Ojai, Calif.: Premiere of works by Daniel Kessner and Lukas Foss, among other works.
