Actor Helmut Berger was acquitted by an Italian appeals court in Florence Tuesday on drug charges for which a lower court sentenced him to 20 months in prison, Reuters reported. The appeals court said there was insufficient evidence to convict, which in Italian law does not translate to full acquittal and leaves some doubt about the defendant’s innocence. The charges of possession and dealing against Berger arose from a party said to have been held at the actor’s Rome home in September, 1979.
