They Put on War Paint, but They Lost the Battle
After practicing at a war games exercise in Anza, two Orange County men decided to play for real, not knowing that the cars they shot at along Interstate 15 with their paint ball pistols were occupied by off-duty sheriff’s deputies, according to a Riverside County officer.
Craig Rhodes, 23, of Tustin and Andrew Harris, 21, of Costa Mesa were arrested Sunday after being surrounded by Los Angeles County deputies traveling in a four-car caravan, according to Riverside County Sheriff’s Sgt. Don Larsen.
The two men were booked for assault with a dangerous weapon and freed Monday on $10,000 bail each, he said.
Rhodes and Harris were driving north on Interstate 15 near Murrieta, 60 miles east of Los Angeles, on their way home from combat games in Anza when they allegedly shot paint balls from automatic paint pistols at two of the four cars.
The two Orange County residents reportedly began shooting the paint at freeway signs, then aimed at the vehicles.
