52 Suspects Identified by Fingerprint System
Suspects in 52 previously unsolved crimes have been identified through the Los Angeles Police Department’s $6-million computerized fingerprint system since it began limited operation in February, officials announced this week.
Included are six murder suspects, three alleged rapists and 32 burglary suspects, police said as the identification system was formally dedicated. Among those identified was a Vacaville state prison inmate connected by the system to a 1979 Rampart Division killing. Nearly 600,000 fingerprints of booked suspects already have been entered into the system, which is linked to a county identification system and to a statewide computer.
