UC Irvine Men Seeded 15th in NCAA Tennis
The UC Irvine men’s tennis team has received a berth in the NCAA championships, which begin Friday at Athens, Ga.
The Anteaters, who won the Pacific Coast Athletic Assn. tournament, are seeded 15th in the 20-team field and will play 18th-seeded Columbia in the eight-team preliminary round Friday. UCI (24-10) defeated Columbia, 5-4, this season.
UCI last played in the NCAA tournament in 1983.
USC is the No. 1 seed, and PCAA champion Cal State Long Beach is second.
Mark Kaplan, UCI’s No. 1 singles player, will compete in the NCAA individual championships, which begin May 20. The No. 1 doubles teams of Kaplan and Trevor Kronemann and the No. 2 team of Julian Barham and Darren Yates also were invited to the individual championships.
