The government today moved to restart its case against eight Los Angeles area immigrants, all facing deportation because of their alleged association with a Marxist faction of the Palestine Liberation Organization, by refiling the same charges against the aliens.

On Monday, an immigration judge threw out the cases against the eight--seven Jordanians and a Kenyan--when a key immigration official ordered by the judge to appear in court did not show up. Today, the same subversion accusations against two of the defendants and visa violation charges against the six others were refiled in U.S. Immigration Court by Ernest Gustafson, the INS disrict director. It’s not yet clear when a new immigration judge will be selected and the case restarted.
