Anti-Communist guerrillas in Afghanistan shot down three helicopters near Kabul, the Afghan capital, early this month, Western diplomats in Islamabad, Pakistan, said. They quoted reports from Afghanistan and said the guerrillas also killed 17 Soviet and 10 Afghan soldiers in fighting at Qarabagh, north of Kabul, on May 9. This provoked a Soviet reprisal attack on the town, causing heavy civilian casualties, they said.
