USIU’s Maritz 25th in Golf Tournament
United States International University’s Laurette Maritz shot a 75-73-74-78 for a 72-hole total of 300 to finish 25th in a field of 102 at the NCAA women’s golf championships, which ended Saturday at the University of New Mexico South Course.
Carolin Kegg of the University of New Mexico won a playoff over Anne Jones of San Jose State to win the title. Kegg and Jones were tied at 71 after 72 holes, and Kegg won the playoff on the first hole by a stroke.
USIU’s Allison Shapcott finished 49th with a 305, and San Diego State University’s Karen Engberg--an at-large entry--finished 59th with a 309.
San Jose State won the team competition with a 1,187. Furman was second, a stroke behind, and the University of Florida was third at 1,190. USIU finished 14th at 1,225.
