Shelley Carey led Laguna Hills High School’s 17-hit attack with two hits and four runs batted in to lead the Hawks to an 11-3 victory over Corona in a Southern Section 2-A softball semifinal game Tuesday at Norco High School.

Laguna Hills (24-6), which will play Woodbridge in Friday’s final at Lakewood’s Mayfair Park, got five hits in the second inning and four runs--two coming on Carey’s double to left--to take a 4-0 lead.

The Hawks went ahead, 6-0, in the third on Carey’s two-run single.

Corona (22-5), which lost to Laguna Hills, 5-0, earlier in the season, managed just an unearned run on two hits in the first six innings before scoring twice on four hits in the seventh.

“We’ve been building for this kind of game for some time,” said Cliff Jarmie, Laguna Hills coach. “We have the kind of ballclub that’s capable of doing this sort of thing.”

Stu Penter, Corona coach, said: “They were just sitting on (Corona starter) Julie Bladow’s fastball all day long. When Bladow (18-3) would throw the fastball, they would just hit away at it.”

Bladow pitched 6 innings and was charged with 11 runs on 16 hits.

Laguna Hills’ Dawn Roberts (24-6) struck out two and walked none for the victory.
