Valerie Harper (of “Valerie”) will play mother to Nancy McKeon (of “The Facts of Life”) in “72 Hours,” a TV movie NBC has in the works. It’s about what happens when McKeon’s character is suddenly discovered to be schizophrenic.

Catherine Oxenberg, who formerly starred in “Dynasty” as Amanda Carrington, has the lead role in a remake of “Roman Holiday” for NBC. She has the part of Princess Alisa that Audrey Hepburn played in the 1953 film.

That fiery car crash at the end of “Dallas” notwithstanding, Victoria Principal is starring in a TV movie for CBS, “Mistress.” She plays a woman whose life changes dramatically when the man who had been supporting her dies, leaving her on her own. Principal played Pamela Ewing on “Dallas” but won’t be returning next season.

Mario Machado and Marilyn Solomon will host “There Goes the Neighborhood,” a documentary for KCOP Channel 13 that’s scheduled for telecast June 17. The program explores the changes--some positive, some not--that Los Angeles is experiencing as a result of the continuing influx of foreigners who want to make the city their home.

Charles Kuralt will celebrate the 20th anniversary of his “On the Road” features for CBS News with a prime-time special June 17. Actually, the celebration is coming four months early; it was in October, 1967, that Kuralt and his camera crew set out in a motor home in search of stories about people and places that have nothing to do with breaking news. The hourlong special will replay some of the best of the stories he found.

John Larroquette of “Night Court” and Gregory Harrison, formerly of “Trapper John, M.D.,” are teamed in a TV movie for CBS, “Hot Paint.” Larroquette plays a toy salesman, Harrison a limousine driver; together they fall into possession of a stolen Renoir painting and can’t get rid of it.

Laurie Anderson will host “Alive From Off Center” on public television this summer. The series returns for its third season July 13. It consists of 10 new half-hour programs featuring avant-garde dance, music, comedy and theater. Among those whose work will be spotlighted are comedian Eric Bogosian, choreographer Molissa Fenley, “new vaudevillian” Bill Irwin and puppeteers the Quay Brothers.

Ben Gazzara and Connie Sellecca are cast as husband and wife in NBC’s “Downpayment on Murder,” a TV movie to be broadcast next season. In it, Gazzara hires a hit man (G. W. Bailey) to kill his wife. David Morse (“St. Elsewhere”) plays a detective investigating the case.

Lauren Hutton will have a recurring role on “Falcon Crest” next season. She’ll play a photojournalist who inherits her father’s San Francisco baseball team and gets to know Richard Channing (David Selby). Meanwhile, Eve Arden will have a guest role on one episode of the CBS soap opera as a society matron.
