Hammer Fractures Rib in Fall
United Press International
WASHINGTON — Armand Hammer, a key private mediator in U.S.-Soviet relations, slipped when getting out of his bathtub and fractured a rib, a spokesman said today.
Hammer, 89, chairman of Occidental Petroleum Corp. and an art collector of world renown, hurt himself Monday at his Los Angeles home, the spokesman said. His doctor has ordered bed rest, forcing Hammer to cancel a planned trip to the White House on Thursday to receive from President Reagan the National Medal for the Arts.
