Local News in Brief : Motorcyclist Dies in Crash; Car Driver Held
Amotorcyclist died and the driver of a car was arrested on suspicion of vehicular manslaughter after their vehicles collided in Calabasas, the California Highway Patrol reported.
Jeffrey M. Barnholtz, 23, of Canoga Park was pronounced dead shortly before 8 p.m. Tuesday at Westlake Community Hospital in Westlake Village, a hospital spokeswoman said.
The CHP arrested the car’s driver, Kenley Dilbeck, 46, of Thousand Oaks, after officers smelled alcohol on his breath, Officer Kenn Rosenberg said. A sample of his blood is being tested, Rosenberg said.
The accident occurred shortly after 7 p.m. Tuesday at the intersection of Las Virgenes Road and Mulholland Highway when Dilbeck turned left into the motorcycle’s path, he said.
Barnholtz, driving north on Las Virgenes, apparently tried to stop, but his momentum sent him into the right front of the car, the officer said.
Dilbeck was released on $2,500 bail.
