A small earthquake centered 12 miles northwest of Palm Springs shook the ground but caused no injuries or damage, officials said. According to scientists at the Caltech Seismology Laboratory, the temblor was centered four miles west of Desert Hot Springs and measured 3.4 on the Richter scale.
