Needle Can Put Sharp Notes in Her Life
Gladys Fox of Los Angeles has been running around in circles, because she has a Garrard turntable and many long-playing records but no needles with which to play them. Can you help keep Fox in tune with the times, or will she no longer be able to face the music unless somebody gives her the needle?
Ex-New Yorker Peter Cavallo of Port Hueneme has been unable to find moccasins , which he used to wear for many years back East. Can you help Cavallo return to his old soft-shoe routine, or will he have to tread gingerly for fear of stepping on somebody’s toes out here?
John Allen of Pacific Palisades is in the market for men’s nylon sleeveless undershirts, but the stores in his area don’t seem to carry the item. Can you help before Allen blows his top, or will your doubts as to what he has up his sleeve persuade him to eventually go topless?
June Nowell of Carlsbad has been unable to find Calso water since the Jurgensen’s markets in her area closed. Can you help keep Nowell at bay by coming up with a nearby source (she’s willing to drive into Orange County), or will we be in hot water, because nobody would spring to her rescue?
Reader-to-Reader Help Line: For a great tan, Pamela at (818) 445-2510 (days) used to apply MMM! lotion , but the manufacturer, 3M, says the product has been discontinued. Please help so that Pamela can start humming low notes at the beach instead of getting burnt up. . . . Faye at (805) 528-1796 would love to again listen to the Les Baxter recording of “Poor People of Paris.” Please help so that Faye won’t become one of them--which may happen if she has to take the Concorde. . . . Corrine at (714) 634-4650 needs replacement bags for a Garb-A-Seal trash holder that can be hung in a closet; the manufacturer is out of business. Please make sure that Corrine is no longer down in the dumps or she won’t come out of the closet.
Note: The Reader-to-Reader Help Line is only for one-time items and for products no longer available in stores. And you must give us written permission to publish your telephone number, so that others may contact you directly.
For Juanita Ferrey of Harbor City, who needs someone to repair a vibrating pillow, we may have a nearby source. The technicians at California Electric Service, 4511 E. Pacific Coast Highway in Long Beach, (213) 597-4301, said they would take a crack at bringing good vibes back into Ferrey’s life. (California Electric Service has repair depots all over California; they specialize in parts and service for most small appliances.)
Marge Russell of Burbank, who needs a new rake for her shag rugs, should not feel we’re pulling the rug out from under her just because we were unable to come up with a retail outlet. But two readers, one from Harbor City and one from Hollywood, say they have rug rakes they no longer need and are willing to go to the mat for her. A stamped, self-addressed envelope will undoubtedly lead to a clean sweep.
For Mrs. Morris Gandin of Oxnard, who was looking for terry cloth heel protectors with Velcro fasteners, we have been on our toes, even though the protectors we heard about are made of plastic, not terry cloth. Michelle Collins, president of Future Enterprises, 1160 Border Ave., Corona, Calif. 91720, (714) 734-1128, says her firm has just begun importing from Holland the Ivox heel protectors, which are weather-resistant and will conform to most heels. Collins says they will protect shoes not just in the car but at work and at home. Another source is the catalogue put out by the Vermont Country Store, P.O. Box 3000, Manchester Center, Vt. 05255-3000; it lists heel protectors with Velcro for $4.95 plus tax and postage. This information came from Chloe Pollock of Playa del Rey, Dorie Ballard of Inglewood and Los Angeles readers Sadae Iwataki, Joan Temple and Blanche Frank.
Occasionally we get requests from the Inland Empire about replacing or repairing perfume-bottle stoppers. Recently Beryl Catlin of Ojai informed us that Wayne Montano, 293 E. Redlands Blvd., San Bernardino, (714) 825-9214, may be able to put a lid on that problem.
