Police Chief’s Wrong Move Led to Checkmate
MILLVILLE, Mass. — A police chief who was suspended when it was learned he had been driving 15 years without a license forfeited his paycheck for walking out of a town meeting called to discuss the situation, officials said.
Chief Philip Walsh had been suspended since June 13 with pay, but town selectmen voted unanimously to withhold his salary after he bolted from the Friday night meeting, said Primo Zacchilli, board of selectmen chairman.
Walsh reportedly has said that the failure to renew his license 15 years ago revolved around an insurance policy dispute.
