Rockwell Division Awarded Air Force Systems Contract
Rockwell International Corp.’s ICBM Systems Division in Anaheim has been awarded a $165-million contract to provide guidance and control systems for the Air Force’s MX missile program.
Rockwell said the contract calls for production of 25 guidance and control systems and associated equipment and services. Funding for the MX program was authorized by Congress in the Air Force’s 1986 and 1987 budgets.
Rockwell’s systems will control MX missile performance from the pre-launch stage through deployment of re-entry warheads.
Seventeen MX missiles have been successfully launched by the Air Force as part of a 20-flight test program, during which performance of the guidance and control systems has exceeded requirements, Rockwell said.
