Hollywoodland
It was a great pleasure for me to read your article (June 7) on the Engineering Service Corp., the firm that planned Hollywoodland. However, I was sorry to find that the article did not include the name of Thomas A. Jordan, the founder of the company, who was also its president until 1956.
Jordan, and his partner, Raymond P. Webb, were true pioneers in the planning of Los Angeles, which was well chronicled by your writer. The Hollywood sign has always been regarded by our family and by Jordan’s friends and colleagues as a cherished memorial to the work he did in helping to engineer the early growth of Los Angeles. It is more than appropriate that any praise of the projects undertaken by the Engineering Service Corp. should begin with the name of Thomas A. Jordan.
