A man who posed as an attorney and represented several clients in civil cases in federal court admitted that he was not a lawyer and pleaded guilty to contempt of court. Charles Christopher Longsworth, who is listed in the telephone book as an attorney with a downtown Los Angeles office, said he had graduated from law school in Honduras. He acknowledged that he had filed lawsuits and made court appearances on behalf of at least two clients even though he had not passed the Bar examination. U.S. District Judge A. Wallace Tashima accepted Longsworth’s guilty pleas and set sentencing for July 27. Longsworth faces a maximum of a year in jail and a $1,000 fine. Longsworth and his lawyer, Naveed Alam, who lists the same business address as Longsworth, refused to talk to reporters after the hearing.
