Assistant Secretary of State Richard W. Murphy will meet his Soviet counterpart in Geneva on July 6-7 for a wide-ranging discussion on the Middle East, the State Department announced. Spokeswoman Phyllis Oakley said Murphy will meet Vladimir P. Polyakov, Mideast director in the Soviet Foreign Ministry, for “an exchange of views on the Middle East.” Other officials said it will not be a negotiating session. “Naturally, we would expect the Middle East peace process to be included as well as the Iran-Iraq War and the situation in the (Persian) Gulf,” Oakley told reporters.
