Graffiti Painter Jailed; Called Botha a Lesbian

CAPE TOWN, South Africa — A student who spray-painted anti-government slogans, including one calling President Pieter W. Botha a lesbian, started serving a one-year jail term today.
Peter Newman, 20, told a court he daubed the slogans in the sleepy farming town of Bredasdorp because he wanted “to wake up the dead little place.”
