U.S.-backed contras ambushed a truck in northwestern Nicaragua, killing a soldier and a Chilean agronomist working for the Sandinista government, the Nicaraguan Interior Ministry said. It said the contras then stole the pickup truck to use in the blowing up of an electrical tower near El Sauce, 54 miles north of Managua. The bodies of the soldier and the Chilean, identified as Manuel Lopez Ibanez, were found nearby. The Chilean worked for a Danish development organization called World University Services, the statement added.
