State Funds Spare L.A. School Board $45-Million Cut
Unanticipated state revenues will spare the Los Angeles school board the task of making a projected $45-million budget reduction in the fiscal year beginning Wednesday, according to district officials.
The board Monday tentatively approved a balanced $3.2-billion budget for the 1987-88 school year that includes funding of several critical programs, such as dropout prevention and music instruction.
Funds will also be provided to complete the air conditioning in year-round schools, establish a training program for emergency teachers and expand an innovative bilingual program.
A final budget will be adopted in August.
