Faria Is Winner of Speedway’s Main Event Race

Mike Faria of Colton won the four-lap main event of the speedway motorcycle Orange County Fair Derby Friday night in front of 7,819 at the fairgrounds in Costa Mesa.

Faria, who was a wire-to-wire winner, become the first rider to win the event twice in its 18-year history. He also won last year.

Bobby Schwartz of Costa Mesa was second, Shawn Moran of Norwalk third and Bob Ott of Newport Beach fourth.

Rob Pfetzing of Santa Ana won the four-lap consolation championship. Gary Hicks was Glen Avon was second, Alan Christian of Huntington Beach third and Shawn McConnell of Brea fourth.
