A speeding car careened out of control in downtown Los Angeles and slammed into a light pole, killing one man and critically injuring another, authorities said. Police said they were looking for a third man who was thrown through the car’s back window, but ran from the accident scene. The three men in the car were reportedly speeding after vandalizing a nearby hotel, police said. Witnesses told police the car was traveling at about 60 m.p.h. when it struck a light pole on 5th Street between Broadway and Hill Street. The man who was fatally injured was pronounced dead at County-USC Medical Center. The second victim was in critical condition at the same hospital. Neither was immediately identified.
