The Nuclear Regulatory Commission announced it has approved a policy providing for random drug testing of employees in sensitive positions. The NRC said the program will not take effect until the agency completely complies with federal drug-testing law, and until it negotiates with the National Treasury Employees Union, which represents most of the NRC’s 3,400 employees. An agency spokesman said he did not know how long that would take.
