TOKYO — The death of U.S. Commerce Secretary Malcolm Baldrige was “an immeasurable loss” to U.S.-Japanese relations, Hajime Tamura, Japan’s minister of international trade and industry, said today.
Baldrige died while riding in a rodeo event at a private ranch in Walnut Creek, Calif.
Tamura, who met Baldrige in Washington 10 days ago, said the secretary “was a devoted American secretary and yet he loved and understood Japan.
“It is a great loss to both the United States and Japan and an immeasurable loss to U.S.-Japanese relations.”
