Glasnost strikes again: Oleg Smolensky, director of the official Soviet concert agency, Goskontsert, has invited the New York Philharmonic to tour the Soviet Union next spring, the New York Times reported. Zubin Mehta will conduct, and soloists, who have yet to be announced, will be Soviet performers, said Albert K. Webster, the orchestra’s managing director. In the last 18 months, the Baltimore Symphony has been the only American orchestra to perform in the Soviet Union. The New York Philharmonic has played in the Soviet Union twice before.
