Megill Named Baseball Coach at Loara

Rob Megill, a three-year varsity assistant at Loara High School, has been named the school’s head baseball coach, Athletic Director Ray Moore announced Thursday.

Megill, who was the infield coach, replaces Moore, who stepped down at the end of last season. Moore said he resigned to spend more time with his family.

Loara finished 6-8 and in fourth place in the Empire League last season and 16-9 overall, after starting the season as the top-ranked team in Orange County in The Times’ baseball poll.

“It’s something I’ve wanted to do for a while,” Megill said. “It’s something I’m really looking forward to.”

Megill, 35, started as a varsity assistant at Lynwood in 1973. He was an assistant at Brea-Olinda from 1976 to 1981 and was the Wildcats’ co-head coach in 1982.

Megill applied for the head job at Loara in 1983, when Scott Pickler left to become the coach at Cypress College. But Moore was named the head coach, and Megill accepted an assistant’s position.

Megill will continue to teach science at Loara.
