18-Year-Old Sought in Shooting of Stunt Man

Police continued their search Sunday for a man who they say shot stunt man Henry Kingi early Saturday night in Studio City in a traffic-related shooting.

Meanwhile, Sunday night the California Highway Patrol was investigating a report of another shooting on the Golden State Freeway in Sylmar.

Police said Thomas Robison, 18, shot Kingi after the stunt man, the ex-husband of actress Lindsay Wagner, argued with teen-agers driving in a Jeep on Ventura Boulevard in Studio City.

Robison was identified by other occupants of the Jeep. Police stopped the vehicle 40 minutes after the incident, but Robison was not inside.

Kingi, 43, of Studio City, was listed in serious but stable condition with wounds in his arm and side at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center after being transferred from North Hollywood Medical Center.

The victim’s 4-year-old son, Dorian, was in the car with his father, but was uninjured, Los Angeles police said.

Kingi, a stunt driver for many of the crash scenes in such television series as “The Dukes of Hazzard” and “The A-Team,” told police he was driving east on Ventura Boulevard, near Coldwater Canyon Avenue, when a Jeep containing seven people cut in front of him.

Traffic Signal Confrontation

Kingi said he continued driving and was stopped at a red traffic signal at Laurel Canyon Boulevard when the Jeep pulled alongside and several of the teen-agers began shouting profanities at him. Kingi yelled back. Then, he and several of the Jeep’s occupants got out of their cars, police said.

According to police, Robison approached Kingi, pointed a gun at his head and pulled the trigger. But the gun failed to fire, said Officer Jerry Sexton.

Kingi told police that Robison then kicked him in the groin, again pointed the gun at him and pulled the trigger. This time, a bullet hit Kingi in the arm, then continued through his side.

The occupants of the Jeep fled, Sexton said.

Stopped Patrol Car

Kingi drove several blocks before flagging down a police patrol car, Sexton said.

The Jeep was stopped by officers about 40 minutes later, but the suspect was not in the vehicle. His companions were questioned and then released, Sexton said.

Sunday night a woman driving south on the Golden State Freeway in Sylmar reported seeing several flashes of gunfire from the window of a rust-colored van. The incident occurred about 7:30 p.m. south of Roxford Street, according to Officer Bill Burdick of the CHP.

No one was injured in the incident, said Burdick.
